The Raleigh Community Police Academy provides Raleigh residents with the chance to learn about the Raleigh Police Department firsthand. Participants will gain valuable insights into the department's policies and procedures, as well as the various divisions and units that work together to keep our community safe.

By opening our doors to the community, we demonstrate our commitment to transparency and accountability in our efforts to keep the community safe. This program encourages residents and police officers to participate in meaningful discussions about community issues, fostering improved communication and strengthening relationships within the community. As a result, community members are informed and empowered to play an active role in addressing local concerns.
Program Details
This nine-week program will consist of eight classes and a graduation ceremony. The program will meet Thursdays from Oct. 2 through Dec. 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Throughout the program, citizens will have opportunities to get a firsthand look at how the Raleigh Police Department operates, and hear from subject matter experts on a variety of topics, such as:
- Constitutional Law
- Emergency Communications Center
- Drone Demonstration with Special Operations
- Traffic Enforcement (DWI Unit, Crash Reconstruction Unit)
- K-9 and Mounted Units
- Raleigh Intelligence Center (Crime analytics, ConnectRaleigh)
- Firearms Simulator
- Ride-Alongs with a Patrol Officer
Who May Attend?
The Community Police Academy is a free program available to applicants who are 21 years of age or older and either reside in or work in the City of Raleigh. Enrollment for this session is limited to a maximum of 25 participants to promote engagement among attendees and with instructors. Due to the expected high number of applicants, we ask for a commitment to the full nine-week program. Regular attendance is essential to maximize the benefits of the program.
Application
Applications for the fall 2025 session are now open. Completed applications, including a background check, will be accepted until Aug. 21.
All applicants will be notified of their application status by Sept. 12. If your application is not accepted, we encourage you to reapply for future sessions.
