Wake County Exchange Clubs Honors RPD Officers for Heroic Water Rescue

On Monday evening, March 23, 2026, the Wake County Exchange Clubs recognized Raleigh Police Officers Mills and Vanderhoof during its annual Law Enforcement Recognition Banquet, celebrating their extraordinary bravery and service to the community.

The two Raleigh Police Department officers were honored for their heroic actions during a 2024 water rescue at the Falls of Neuse River. Their swift response and decisive actions led to the successful rescue of two juveniles, exemplifying courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

The event brought together members of RPD’s command staff, colleagues, and family members to celebrate the officers’ life-saving efforts and dedication to service.

Their actions have also gained national recognition. In 2025, Officers Mills and Vanderhoof were featured in the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, highlighting the significance of their response and the impact of their work.
