Raleigh Police Officer Recognized For Outstanding Service and Professionalism

Officer Marcotte receives the NOD HEART Award and a Letter of Commendation from the Chief's Office.

Congratulations to Officer Marcotte on being the recipient of the NOD HEART Award.  He was presented with a plaque at roll call.  He also received a Letter of Commendation from the Chief's Office for his recent work with CALEA assessors.  Below is the submission from Sergeant Hutler recognizing Officer Marcotte's HEART.

"Officer Marcotte displayed multiple HEART values during a recent community interaction that began with an unusual call for assistance. A resident reached out to share their appreciation after Officer Marcotte responded to help free an opossum tangled in a child’s football net. Although animal control was originally requested, Officer Marcotte stepped in without hesitation.

He handled the situation with calm professionalism and kindness—even as the “spicy possum” attempted to bite at his shoes—and demonstrated patience with a group of concerned parents who were offering more worry than help. His respectful demeanor and steady approach ensured the animal was safely freed and the residents felt supported throughout the encounter.

After resolving the situation, Officer Marcotte took additional time to answer the residents’ unrelated questions regarding gun safety for children and to provide updates on a recent neighborhood concern. Though he soon had to move on to another call, he ensured the community felt heard, reassured, and valued during what was likely one of the lighter moments of his shift.

In addition to this commendable interaction, Officer Marcotte further demonstrated exceptional Teamwork and Honor by volunteering to work an additional assignment so that A-Squad officers could attend the funeral for WakeMed Officer Smith. His willingness to step up during a difficult time for the law enforcement family reflects true dedication to his colleagues and to the values represented by the HEART Award.

This interaction and willingness to volunteer reflects the HEART principles in action—Honor, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork. Through his patience, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond, Officer Marcotte made meaningful impacts. As the resident shared, “Our community is better because of this.”

Officer Marcotte’s conduct serves as an excellent example of the service and professionalism the HEART Award is designed to recognize."  - Sergeant KB Hutzler
