FAQs

Do you provide tables, chairs, or linens? Do you provide set-up?
Tables and chairs are available for use at each of the historic sites within the building and on the porch. The City of Raleigh does not provide linens. Set-up is handled by the renter. Chairs and tables used on the grounds beyond the porch of each facility must be provided by the renter.

Is alcohol allowed at my event?
Alcohol can be served at the City of Raleigh Historic Sites rentals with an approved $50 alcohol permit. The alcohol permit document and payment must be received by the Rental Manager 60 days before the event. Liquor is not allowed at City of Raleigh venues. Red wine is not allowed in the Borden Building, Tucker House, and Mordecai Historic Park Visitor Center or St. Mark’s Chapel.

Is there a list of preferred or required caterers?
No. The City of Raleigh does not require or recommend any specific caterers. Renters are required to submit a catering permit form 30 days before the event that includes proof of liability insurance and a copy of the caterer’s latest sanitation grade. If a renter wishes to self-cater, a self-catering hold harmless form and proof of liability insurance are required.

Can I have a DJ or live music?
You may have a DJ or live music at your event. You are responsible for complying with the City of Raleigh’s amplified music Code of Ordinance, Sec. 12-5003.

Is dancing allowed?
Dancing can be held on outdoor dance floors at any of the historic sites. Indoor dancing can only be held on the first floor of the Borden Building if a dance floor is brought into the building.
