Raleigh Parks Earns National Accreditation from the National Recreation and Park Association

National accreditation confirms what Raleigh already knows: its parks are exceptional.

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department (Raleigh Parks) has achieved accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This prestigious distinction recognizes Raleigh Parks as one of the leading park and recreation agencies in the country.

Accreditation is the highest honor a park and recreation organization can achieve. It demonstrates that Raleigh Parks meets the field’s rigorous standards related to operations, planning, community involvement, and service delivery. Only a small percentage of agencies nationwide have earned this recognition.

“This accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the support of our community, and the vision of our City leadership,” said Stephen Bentley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. “It affirms that Raleigh Parks is delivering high-quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

The CAPRA accreditation process is an intensive, multi-year effort that includes a thorough self-assessment, peer review by experienced professionals, and an on-site evaluation. Agencies must demonstrate excellence in areas ranging from strategic planning and financial management to programming, safety, and community engagement.

With this achievement, Raleigh Parks joins a distinguished group of accredited agencies across the nation that exemplify best practices in serving their communities through parks and recreation.
