The Raleigh Parks Active Adult Program is working with the Japan America Society of North Carolina to provide week-long Japanese cultural outreach programs.
Registration is required and is limited to 20 participants per session. There is a materials fee of $5 per event.
Monday, March 3
Anne Gordon Center
- Kiri-Gami, 1 - 2 p.m.
Participants will learn to create intricate designs by cutting and folding Origami paper - Sumi-E, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Participants will learn drawing techniques, using the contrast of black ink.
Tuesday, March 4
Walnut Terrace Center
- Furoshiki, 1 - 2 p.m.
Participants will learn traditional Japanese fabric wrapping. Please bring your own water bottle and a small box. - Kiri-Gami, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Participants will learn to create intricate designs by cutting and folding Origami paper
Wednesday, March 5
Five Points Center
- Chigiri-E, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Participants will learn to create artwork using small pieces of torn Washi paper. - Calligraphy, 11 a.m. - noon
Participants will learn traditional Japanese writing. - Origami, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Participants will learn traditional Japanese paper folding. - Tea Ceremony, 3 - 4 p.m.
Participants will learn about the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and how to drink matcha.
