Discover the Hidden Gems of Raleigh Parks with a New Podcast

Raleigh Parks is thrilled to announce the launch of its newest initiative, “Big Ideas Raleigh: Parks Edition.” This podcast series aims to bring the spirit of Raleigh's parks directly to listeners' ears.

It is part of the new City podcast, "Big Ideas Raleigh!" Listeners can dive deep into Raleigh's heartbeat as we explore hidden gems, a thriving food scene, rich history, and beautiful parks. 

The first few episodes of “Big Ideas Raleigh” will focus on Raleigh's history, support for small businesses, and these special edition episodes from Raleigh Parks. After June 24th, new episodes of “Big Ideas Raleigh” will be released every other Monday.

The Raleigh Parks Edition will focus on Raleigh's over 200 parks and green spaces, which offer so much to explore. The podcast will serve as a virtual guide, offering insights, stories, and insider tips to help residents and visitors learn more about Raleigh parks. 

Each episode of the podcast will feature engaging discussions with park staff. Listeners can expect to learn about the history and vision of Raleigh Parks. They will also learn about how parks make a difference in the community, how we maintain our parks and natural resources, and much more.  

The first episodes of Big Ideas Raleigh: Parks Edition will feature the following:

June 24:

Natural Resources: Environmental Education Programs, Sheryl McGlory, Natural Resources Superintendent, Brian Smith and Land Stewardship Program Manager, Sean Gough 

How Raleigh Parks Makes a Difference in the Community: Cultural Outreach and Enrichment Manager, Tierney Sneeringer, Health and Wellness Program Director, Ainsely Worrell, and Financial Assistance Program Administrator, Debbie Huston

The Vision of Parks: Raleigh Parks, Director Stephen Bentley, Executive Director of Dix Park, Kate Pearce, and Planning Supervisor, T.J. McCourt 

July 8:

The History of Raleigh Parks: Administrator of Historic Resources and Museum Program Troy Burton

Parks: Parks and Greenway Infrastructure Superintendent, Brian Johnson, Urban Forester, Zach Manor, and Assistant Director of Parks Charles Craig
