You may have heard some recent news about parking in Downtown Raleigh. So, what are the facts?
The City of Raleigh operates 11,000 parking spaces Downtown. This includes spots on the streets and in our parking decks.
It costs a lot to keep our parking operation running smoothly -- maintenance, security, operating costs, payment processing and loan repayments on our decks. But after we collect revenues and fees, we still have a large multi-million dollar gap between what we bring in and what we need to manage the operation.
Staff presented a variety of options to close the projected gap at a work session earlier this month. Following Council and community feedback, additional options will be presented at a Council meeting in April. It's important to note that no decisions have been made about rate increases or program changes at this time.
While the gap is a real issue to address, the City is committed to keeping our Downtown accessible, supporting local businesses and ensuring our parking program provides a safe, clean and reliable experience.
