Open Paddle Program

Lake Johnson will begin providing paddling equipment to access the lake through our new Open Paddle Program starting Friday, July 8.  Open Paddle is a 1.5-hour program that allows you to get on the water if you don’t have your own equipment.   The Lake Johnson staff will provide a brief overview of equipment and how to use it before turning the group loose to paddle in a large, designated area.  Sessions at Lake Johnson will run Friday through Sunday with AM and PM options based on staffing. Be sure to pre-register through Rec-Link beginning June 24th (search Kayak or SUP or Paddle).  New sessions will become available weekly.

This year we will have the following equipment available:

  • Single kayak (one person in one kayak)
  • Tandem kayak (two people in one kayak)
  • Stand-Up Paddleboards (one person per board).

Come dressed to get wet, and we’ll see you on the water!

The tandem kayaks are back.  Tandem kayaks are two people paddling one kayak.  These are great for couples and families with paddlers under the age of 18.  Tandem Kayaks are available in our Open Paddle program; one person must be over 18.  There are a limited number of tandem kayaks and programs for tandem kayaks.  If you are looking to paddle with a partner, or a younger paddler, make sure you register for the Tandem Kayak option for the Open Paddle Program.

Dates: June-Aug

Ages: 18 and up for single vessels, 1-18 or older per tandem, Min age 2nd paddler: Must fit Youth PFD

Cost:  $15 singles, $7.50 per person for Tandem
