Easy French Dip Sandwich Recipe from Raleigh Fire

In each issue of Raleigh Fire News, we’ll disclose our firefighters’ favorite dishes and let you know what you need to do to eat like a firefighter!

This is a firehouse favorite that is a tasty and also easy to fix. That’s especially great for firefighters who tend to always be on the go. Many times, this recipe is a good lunch of choice when the troops are extremely busy.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

4 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise

1 (10.5 ounce) can beef consommé

1 cup water

1 pound thinly sliced deli roast beef

8 slices provolone cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Open hoagie rolls and lay them out on a baking sheet.
  3. Heat beef consommé and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat to make a rich beef broth.
  4. Place roast beef in broth and warm for 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange meat on hoagie rolls and top each roll with 2 slices of provolone.
  6. Bake sandwiches in the preheated oven until cheese melts, about 5 minutes.
  7. Serve sandwiches with small bowls of warm broth for dipping and creamy horseradish sauce!
