Energy Supply

One important way to reduce GHG emissions across North Carolina is “greening” our energy supply grid. This means moving away from coal to cleaner renewables like solar and geothermal energy. The continued transition to a cleaner energy grid is vital to GHG reductions and must happen simultaneously to other high impact climate action strategies in the energy and transportation sectors.

Climate action strategies related to a cleaner energy supply from our power grid relies heavily on Duke Energy and other local energy providers switching to clean and renewable energy sources. The City of Raleigh is an active participant in several initiatives to support the transition to a cleaner power grid. This includes Duke’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process to share the City’s continued interest in GHG emission reduction and carbon reduction in energy production.
