The consultant design team has completed a 100% version of construction documents have resubmitted for final permit approval. Once the final construction plans and permits have been approved, the project will be publicly bid for construction.

The project is now complete. This project began in July 2023 and was anticipated to be completed in Spring 2024. However, multiple weather events have contributed to completion delays. Like a majority of trail sections, this trail section is also located in a floodplain. Floodplains are prone to flooding and designed to carry floodwaters. Due to permit restrictions, grading elevation changes were limited to prevent unintended flood impacts. Within these constraints, we collaborated with the contractor and design consultant to incorporate shallow ditches (or swales) where possible, providing some water capacity relief for the asphalt trail during heavy rain events.

Many of our greenway projects are built within relatively narrow corridors to minimize disturbances to natural surroundings and reduce environmental impacts. Construction is highly dependent on dry conditions, as critical tasks such as grading, subgrade installation, and asphalt placement require stable ground. These challenges are even greater in flood-prone areas, such as this project.

A significant setback occurred in late 2023 when a major weather event caused the creek to rise rapidly, overtopping the silt fence and depositing substantial sediment onto the project site. This required coordination with permitting agencies for proper cleanup, regrading, and streambank assessment, as the storm had altered the bank’s structure. The necessary redesign and permitting for bank repairs contributed to project delays.

The project is now complete and open for public use.
