Crabtree Creek Improvements at Raleigh Boulevard

New trail construction

A section of the Crabtree Creek Trail between N. Raleigh Blvd and Crabtree Blvd,  between mile markers 51/4 and 6 has experienced stream bank erosion causing the need for trail repairs. The realigned section of the trail will parallel an existing sewer easement through a wooded area and rejoin the existing path. A second section of the trail, will be relocated away from the stream bank and will parallel the existing sewer. This section of Crabtree Creek Trail is closed during construction, however, a detour is provided utilizing Remington Rd, Marlborough Rd, Rumson Rd, Barksdale Dr, and N Raleigh Blvd. There are no sidewalks along Barksdale Rd and a portion of Remington Rd, therefore pedestrian access is limited. Construction

This project began in July 2023 and was anticipated to be completed in Spring 2024. However, heavy rainfall this past winter caused significant flooding in this area, and erosion and sedimentation occurred. As a result, it is necessary to work with permit agencies on these issues, resulting in an extended construction timeframe to late January 2025. Crews are working on other areas along the trail while the permitting process is underway.

The Capital Area Greenway System was first adopted by City Council in 1976. This plan proposed a system of linear parks located primarily along rivers, streams, and creeks, and included the opportunity for an interconnected system of pedestrian trails across the region.
