Convention center featuring its new name

Raleigh's Convention Center Has A New Name

Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center

You’ll have to find a new nickname for “The RCC,” now the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center as of Thursday, Aug. 27.

City leaders and representatives from Atlantic Union Bank revealed the new logo and signage during the event and shared remarks highlighting the partnership. The 15-year naming agreement marks a significant milestone in the center’s continued growth and its role in supporting Raleigh’s vibrant downtown.

“We are most excited about this new partnership with Atlantic Union Bank,” Executive Director of The Convention Center and Performing Arts Complex Kerry Painter said at Thursday’s event. “Our convention center hosts business leaders, associations, sporting events, all kinds of organizations. We couldn’t be more thrilled that the bank saw value in us.”

The convention center has long been a major economic engine for Raleigh, welcoming more than six million guests and generating more than $1 billion in economic impact since opening in 2008. It is globally recognized in the meetings and events industry, earning the prestigious Venue Excellence Award from the International Association of Venue Managers in 2025.

“To Atlantic Union Bank: thank you for your investment in us,” said City Manager Marchell Adams-David. “We hope that this will be a reciprocal investment and you will get a strong return on that investment.”

The facility is also in the midst of a 298,100 square foot expansion that will add new flex spaces, ballrooms, and meeting rooms, bringing its total footprint to 798,100 square feet. This growth is part of a broader transformation of downtown that includes a new 600 room Omni Hotel, a relocated Red Hat Amphitheater, and upgrades to the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.

Together, these projects reflect Raleigh’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its downtown core and enhancing the experience for visitors, residents, and event partners. With the new naming partnership in place and major expansion work underway, the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center is poised to remain a cornerstone of Raleigh’s growth and a destination for world-class events for years to come.

“Thank you for welcoming us to this partnership,” said Maria Tedesco, president and chief operating officer of Atlantic Union Bank. “We look forward to working together to support people, to support businesses, and communities that will continue to thrive in Raleigh.”
