Think you’re fast? Think again… we’re betting Captain Christian Christopoulos is faster!
Recently, he won the City of Oaks marathon with a time of 2:40:25.
“It was a little unsettling being chased by so many people.” Christopoulos tells us. “With about a mile to go I knew I had enough of a lead so I was able to really enjoy that last mile!”
The twelve-year Raleigh Fire Department veteran ran his first marathon back in 2014 and has run at least 20 since then. But, he says, honestly, he’s lost count.
So, why does he run?
“A lot of different reasons…The big ones are I enjoy the process of setting a goal and working to accomplish it. I want to set an example of discipline for my kids, and I love the adventure aspect of trail running and running in new places,” says Christopoulos. He adds:” Bonus reason: I have to because everyone at work gives me a hard time for not being as fit as my brother Nick, who is also with RFD!”
He says winning the City of Oaks marathon in front of family and friends was really special.
“I’m proud to call Raleigh home and to work for the City of Raleigh so it was pretty cool to win the hometown race.”
Congrats, Capt. Christopoulos!
