The City took another step forward in its mission to improve housing affordability for Raleigh residents with a groundbreaking ceremony today in Southeast Raleigh. Twenty-five new affordable homes are set to be built across nine City-owned lots, expanding housing supply in neighborhoods where people already live and work.
This project reflects years of partnership with Southeast Raleigh Promise, a non-profit organization focused on bringing purpose-built communities to Southeast Raleigh, and a shared commitment to bringing more affordable housing to the community to ensure every Raleigh resident has a safe, stable place to call home.
City Council helped moved this project from plan to reality by leveraging public land and approving $3.3 million in gap financing. This investment will keep the homes affordable for 75 years, helping provide long-term stability for residents and preventing displacement as the city continues to grow.
The development will include a mix of housing types, including duplexes and accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and will serve households earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income (AMI). In Raleigh, a family of four earns $39,800 at 30% AMI and $104,200 at 80% AMI.
Located near jobs, services, and everyday essentials, these homes will help connect residents to opportunity. Thoughtfully integrated into existing neighborhoods, these homes will add housing in a way that fits the scale and character of the surrounding community.
This work supports Raleigh’s Affordable Housing Plan, which sets a goal to expand housing options and keep the City affordable for more residents.
Through projects like this, Raleigh continues its work to solve the affordable housing puzzle, one piece at a time.
