Affordable Housing 101 Work Session Recap

Learn more about the affordable housing landscape and rental development!

On Tuesday, April 11, Raleigh City Council held a work session to learn more about the affordable housing landscape with an emphasis on affordable rental development. City staff gave a presentation to provide an overview on how the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program is structured in comparison to a market-rate, conventional rental development. Staff also discussed how households at or below 30% of the area median income are primarily served.

The work session facilitated a productive conversation around the City's successes as a local leader on the development of affordable housing, while highlighting the challenges that the City is facing as housing costs rise. To view the full presentation and discussion, watch the work session recording!

The City’s affordable housing strategy focuses primarily on the development of affordable rental units as well as support for homelessness initiatives and first-time homebuyers with low incomes.
