The City Attorney’s Office hosts law students for summer internships during school’s summer break and externship opportunities during the academic year. During the fall and spring semesters, the City supervises externs who earn class credit by working the allocated number of hours required by their law school externship course. During the summer, the City hires a Summer Associate who is paid at an hourly rate for 30 hours per week for a 10-week period.
Interns and externs serve under the supervision of an attorney within the office, and assignments cover a broad range of legal services including memo writing, legal research, oral advocacy, and transactional work. Interns and externs also have the opportunity to attend hearings, depositions, client meetings, City Council meetings, and more throughout their experience in the City Attorney’s Office.
If you’re interested in working with the City Attorney’s Office, contact Mollie Grose at Mollie.Grose@raleighnc.gov or call the office at 919-996-6560. These opportunities are available only to current law students who have completed their first year of law school.
