Raleigh’s latest social trend has a new district. Backed by support from Seaboard residents and retailers, the Raleigh City Council approved the Sip n’ Stroll designation for the Seaboard Station development. The social district will take effect on Nov. 14. Within the designated area, people can openly consume alcohol sold by certain ABC-permitted businesses daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The boundaries of this social district are W. Franklin Street between Semart Drive and Halifax Street and Seaboard Avenue between Semart Drive and Halifax Steet.
On Sept. 16, Hoffman and Associates, who owns and operates Seaboard Station, requested the designation from the Raleigh City Council.
Representatives from Hoffman and Associates met with City staff, community groups, and neighbors from surrounding areas to discuss the designation. Nearly 90 percent of the residents were in favor of the designation and more than three-quarters of the food and beverage retailers indicated they would participate.
