The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program is a nationwide program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered locally by the City of Raleigh Community Partnerships Division.

If you're 55 or older and have a passion for helping children succeed, the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program is looking for you!

As an AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteer, you'll volunteer in Wake County Public Schools and local child development centers, where you'll encourage students, strengthen reading and math skills, and provide the one-on-one support that helps children build confidence and reach their full potential. Your kindness, patience, and life experience can have a lasting impact on a child's future.

If eligible, AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents serve a minimum of 20 hours per week and receive benefits such as an hourly stipend, transportation and meal reimbursement, ongoing training, and supplemental insurance.

Make a difference where it matters most—one child, one classroom, one community at a time.

Orientation and Training

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents receive 40 hours of orientation and pre-service training. This includes 20 hours of classroom training, provided by the staff of the program, and 20 hours in which participants shadow experienced Volunteers.

During orientation, Volunteers learn about the purpose, benefits, and regulations of the program, volunteer sites, and children to be served.

Stipend

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents serve four hours per day, five days a week. For their services, they receive an hourly stipend. The amount is set by the AmeriCorps Seniors. Stipend payments to Volunteers do not reduce or eliminate the level of, or eligibility for, assistance or services a Volunteer may be receiving under any governmental program.
