a wash / a wave / a wake is a black trans experimental performance that centers identity and transformation. Co-created by five black trans dancers, vocalists, and musicians, the performance will be accompanied by a soundscape weaving interview excerpts and the sounds of bodies of water.
About the Artwork
To be black and trans is to be a body with energy moving through, around, for and about it. Witness our stories through live music, sound making, dance and spoken word. Allow this performance to move you through grief like water and wash over you. Let your experiences ebb and flow like a wave. Allow your spirit to be held as a witness to its own wake.

The performance will be held in the stone seat amphitheater. In case of rain, the performance will move indoors in the Borden Building.
Matinee Performance and Talk Back

Time: 2:00 p.m.

The performance will be held in the stone seat amphitheater. In case of rain, the performance will move indoors in the Borden Building.
While attendance is free, Registration is required.
In the event of rain, the performance will be moved indoors. The artists request that participants wear a mask for indoor performances. The artists will provide masks for those who don't have one.
About the Artists
Audria LB (she/her/hers) is a Black transfeminine filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Durham, NC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2017 with B.A.’s in Media Arts and African American Studies. Audria LB seeks to fill the world with dope Black queer and trans art.
foster weems (she/they) is a fat black queer and trans low femme agnosto-disciplinary artist–educator. foster is a dancer of the black improvisational dance tradition, a painter, composer/arranger and photographer who works to create care-driven spaces for ushering fat black queer and trans folks into play, experimentation, unbridled being and, ultimately, a deepened intimacy with- and trust of themselves, their desires and creative visions.
SEEK Raleigh
SEEK Raleigh is an experimental public art program by Raleigh Arts that engages the community through public art in City of Raleigh Parks, greenways, and/or community spaces. The program provides an opportunity for artists to introduce the public to new, unusual, and thought-provoking experiences through temporary public art.
