Award reflects the collective effort of the Information Technology Department
The City’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mark Wittenburg is one of the country’s top government technology leaders! Wittenburg was named one of Government Technology’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers. The award recognizes leaders who are helping shape the future of public service through innovation, collaboration and forward-thinking leadership.
The annual recognition highlights individuals across state and local government who are making meaningful strides in how technology improves everyday life for residents. This year’s honorees showcase the best in public-sector innovation. They are improving digital services, strengthening cybersecurity and making services more accessible for everyone.
Wittenburg says this award reflects the collective effort of the entire Information Technology Department.
“Achievements like this don’t happen in isolation,” Wittenburg said. “They are the result of a team that is deeply committed to serving the community and constantly looking for better ways to deliver services.”
Raleigh’s IT team plays a critical role in keeping the City running smoothly, often working behind the scenes. That includes maintaining essential systems and supporting City staff, along with launching digital tools that make it easier for residents to access services. The department’s work touches nearly every aspect of daily life in Raleigh.
The team’s efforts help ensure that residents can pay bills online, access City information quickly, and interact with local government in more convenient and inclusive ways. At the same time, the team is focused on strengthening the City’s digital infrastructure and preparing for the future through thoughtful innovation.
The award underscores that meaningful progress in government technology is driven by collaboration. As Raleigh continues to grow, the City’s IT Department remains committed to supporting that growth with reliable, accessible and forward-looking technology solutions. The goal is to ensure that all residents are served effectively today and well into the future.
