City presented award at the Trimble Innovate 2024 User Conference

City of Raleigh Information Technology received a 2024 Infinity Award at the Trimble Innovate 2024 User Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. The City was presented the overall Infinity Award winner for 2024. This high-level award was presented to the City because of the effort in saving millions of dollars annually using industry best practices and Trimble digital solutions for designing, building, operating and maintaining its infrastructure.

Highlighting best use of software

The City uses Trimble software in various areas. We use Trimble e-Builder to plan, design and build assets from small but important projects supporting the drainage assistance program in the Stormwater department, to the massive project of the East Civic Tower. About 325 users in Engineering Services and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) use e-Builder, and its use continues to increase. Roughly half of the users are from outside the City, such as general contractors, consultants, and architects. One of the key attractions of using e-Builder is that it allows them to have a direct role in important business processes.

Trimble Cityworks is used to operate and maintain the built infrastructure in the City, from greenway tunnel lights to waste water treatment plants and everything in between. This software serves the entire City and has around 800 people using it regularly across Engineering Services, Transportation, Stormwater, Solid Waste Services, Raleigh Water, Parks Recreation and Cultural Resources, and the Convention Center.

As one of Trimble’s larger customers, City employees serve as a resource for other customers who often call for guidance on best practices and expansion. Trimble has also contacted the City on several occasions for input on new functionality the company considered developing.

"We congratulate all the Infinity Award winners on achieving impressive levels of digital innovation and real results that will benefit their communities for generations to come," said Cyndee Hoagland, senior vice president of Trimble's Owner and Public Sector. "These honorees demonstrate that, regardless of your organizational size, budget or focus, you can deliver efficiently, affordably and sustainably by connecting data, teams and processes across all phases of the asset lifecycle."

To identify the 2024 winners, nominations were evaluated by a selection committee of seven Trimble senior managers and executives. They used a numeric scoring system based on criteria aligned with industry best practices for capital program and infrastructure asset management. To ensure accuracy and objectivity, the committee members participated in multiple rounds of blind scoring, without knowing how other committee members scored the same nominees. Any Trimble staff member with a direct working relationship with a nominated organization was excluded from the selection process.

City staff who attended and received the honor includes:

  • Engineering Services - Veronica High, Claudia White, Don Hickman, and Brian Alford
  • Raleigh Water - Howard Hoyle, John Peterson, Ricardo Hernandez
  • Information Technology - Peter Sherman, Chad Foley, Chris King
  • Transportation - Benjamin Griffin
  • Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources - Philip Sullivan
