Scammer Alert

Protect Yourself from Utility Scammers

Take Steps to Guard Against Scammer Phone calls

City of Raleigh utility customers, as well as utility customers in Garner, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell, and Zebulon communities, be aware of individuals who pretend to be employees of Raleigh Water so they can scam you for account information and bill payment details. Scammers’ methods continue to advance, with fraud calls remaining a constant.

Phone scammers will pose as employees of Raleigh Water and contact you by phone. They may threaten to shut off your services immediately due to a late utility payment. Scammers will pressure you for credit card and bank account information. They target small businesses, customers with limited English proficiency, and elderly customers.

Raleigh Water employees will never call you asking for or demanding immediate utility payment or threatening immediate service shutoff. Employees will never pressure customers for credit card numbers or your bank account information.

If someone calls demanding immediate payment and threatens service shutoff, hang up immediately. If you suspect that you have been contacted by a scammer, contact Raleigh Police Department non-emergency crime line or your local law enforcement agency right away.
