Celebrate Black History and East Raleigh’s Legacy with Museum Mornings

This February, the John P. Top Greene Community Center invites the community to join us for Museum Mornings, a heartfelt celebration of Black History Month and the vibrant history of East Raleigh’s historic South Park neighborhood.

Held every Friday morning in February, Museum Mornings will offer guests a complimentary cup of coffee alongside cultural discussions that highlight the stories featured in the museum’s exhibition.

This year, the series will include a special focus on “Centuries in the Making,” an onsite exhibit presented in collaboration with the South Park-East Raleigh Neighborhood Association (SPERNA). This exhibit delves into the historical significance of East Raleigh-South Park, one of Raleigh’s oldest African American communities, and its enduring contributions to the city’s cultural and civic landscape.

The “Centuries in the Making” exhibit captures the spirit of resilience, creativity, and community that defines East Raleigh-South Park. Through photographs, artifacts, and personal stories, visitors can explore the neighborhood’s legacy and its role in shaping the city’s history.

“We’re proud to celebrate Black History Month by honoring both the broader African American experience and the local stories that have shaped East Raleigh-South Park,” said Nadia Marriott, Manager of the John P. Top Greene Community Center. “Museum Mornings create a welcoming space for meaningful discussions and reflection, while our partnership with SPERNA brings the incredible legacy of this community to life.”

We look forward to welcoming you this February!
