Portion of Lake Wheeler Road Closed to Traffic August 25 – 27

Construction activity will close a section of Lake Wheeler Road the weekend of Aug. 25 through Aug. 27.

Lake Wheeler Road will be closed to through traffic between South Saunders Street and Maywood Avenue Aug. 25 through Aug. 27.

Traffic will be detoured by way of South Saunders Street and Maywood Avenue during the road closure.

While the detour is in place, please use either Western Boulevard to S. Boylan Avenue or Hunt Drive or Centennial Parkway to Briggs Drive.

The City is closing this section of Lake Wheeler Road to complete underground utility work relating to the Gipson Play Plaza Construction Project.

To limit impacts of this work crews are scheduled to work continuously for the entire 48 hours of the road closure, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. The bulk of work will take place between Fuller Street and Grissom Street, with a complete road closure near the Fuller Street intersection.

Impact on Residents

The work will impact the residents on Lake Wheeler Road and in the Fuller Heights neighborhood. Residents can expect to experience noise, lights, and vibrations from construction equipment throughout the weekend.

This work is part of the ongoing construction at Dorothea Dix Park. The underground utility lines will connect to a new comfort station and water features being constructed inside the park.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to complete this project.
