Adornment of Grace: The Shape of Sunday

John P. "Top" Greene African American Cultural Center

“Adornment of Grace” is an exhibition featuring” The Shape of Sunday” with Erica Kendrick, a ceramic artist, sculptor, and educator based in the Raleigh–Durham area of North Carolina.

Her work is rooted in storytelling through form, celebrating themes of strength, heritage, and feminine beauty. Drawing from Black cultural traditions and personal memory, Kendrick hand-builds intricate floral sculptures, crowns, and hat-inspired vessels that honor resilience and grace.

Kendrick will display her hat sculptures at the John P. Top Greene African American Cultural Center. This exhibition honors the cultural significance of hats within the community, highlighting their role as symbols of identity, dignity, tradition, and self-expression.  The exhibition is free to the public and will be on May 1 - May 31.
