Five Artists, Five Perspectives: A Celebration of Diverse Voices at Sertoma Arts Center
This fall, Sertoma Arts Center presents a dynamic group exhibition featuring the works of Kevin Peddicord, Brian Imfeld, Jeff “Sketch Guy” Rezeli, Ann Haigler, and Matt Murray. Together, their pieces explore nostalgia, structure, journey, texture, and human connection—five distinct approaches that invite viewers to see the world in new ways.
Kevin Peddicord: “Portraits, Perplexments and Other Past Peculiarities”
Kevin Peddicord describes his style as “Pop Nostalgia,” drawing on his lifelong love of comic books, cinema, and music from the 1920s through the 1970s. His oil and acrylic paintings feature characters—both famous and imagined—infused with wit, bold color, and a cinematic sensibility inspired by directors like Fritz Lang and Stanley Kubrick. Born in Washington, DC, and now living in Raleigh, Kevin’s career has spanned commercial illustration for sports icons to exhibiting internationally, including the 2025 London Art Biennale.
Brian Imfeld: “Structure Engaging Spontaneity”
In his abstract paintings, Brian Imfeld investigates the tension between chaos and order. Each work begins with spontaneous marks—often sourced from incidental surfaces—which he then organizes into geometric or symbolic systems reminiscent of data visualization. The result prompts reflection on how we construct meaning in the face of uncertainty. A Raleigh-based artist and educator, Brian’s work has been shown nationally, and he is known locally for fostering creative engagement as an elementary school art teacher.
Jeff “Sketch Guy” Rezeli: “Mountains to Sea Trail Sketches”
In 2023, Jeff Rezeli completed a 1,000-mile trek across North Carolina with his wife, traveling by foot, bike, and kayak. Along the way, he produced daily on-site sketches capturing the state’s landscapes, landmarks, and natural textures. This series not only documents his journey but also celebrates the beauty of North Carolina’s connected natural resources. A Raleigh architect with a passion for drawing, Rezeli has been sketching for over 25 years, compiling hundreds of pen-and-ink studies from around the world.
Ann Haigler: “Deliberate Texture”
For ceramicist Ann Haigler, handbuilding is an act of slowing down—shaping clay into textured, architectural forms with careful attention to detail. After retiring from a career in technology, Ann found her passion in the tactile, meditative process of working with clay. A dedicated member of Sertoma’s ceramics community, she embraces both the creative growth and the calming rhythm of her craft, infusing each piece with color, texture, and intentional artistry.
Matt Murray: “Everything in Between”
Matt Murray’s sculptures explore the shifting spaces between human connections—moments just before and after relationships change, collide, or drift apart. His work captures the unseen threads of timing, chance, and emotional residue. Self-taught and inspired by a rainy-day experiment with Play-Doh, Matt now sculpts in wax-based clay, donating half of his proceeds to local charities supporting children in need. For him, art is both a meditative practice and a way to create tangible change.
