Periodic Walnut Creek Trail at Trailwood Drive Closures and Detour. Between Mile Markers 10.75 and 13

The Walnut Creek Trail currently utilizes a 5’ wide section of sidewalk where the trail intersects with Avent Ferry Road, between that point and where the trail picks up again on Trailwood Drive. The Walnut Creek Greenway Trail at Trailwood Drive project will extend the Walnut Creek Trail from near its intersection with Avent Ferry Road to Trailwood Drive along an existing sewer easement that runs parallel to Walnut Creek. This extension will allow users to forgo using the sidewalk along Avent Ferry Road to remain on the Walnut Creek Trail in this area, providing a continuous 10-foot-wide asphalt trail along the entire corridor.

Construction of this project will begin on February 15, 2022, and last for approximately 8 months until the project is complete. During this time, periodic trail closures, between Capability Drive and Avent Ferry Road, will be required to accommodate construction. This map shows the closure area with the detour route.  Closures are anticipated to be infrequent and short in duration when they occur. During trail closures, a detour route will be provided along Capability Drive, Varsity Drive, and Avent Ferry Road.
