Want to become better informed about zoning cases, text changes, or comprehensive plan amendments? Then Ask a Planner. On the first Tuesday of every month before the public hearing, City planners will be available to provide information about public hearing items. The case planners will be in room 237 of the Raleigh Municipal Building from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with detailed information about the evening’s cases. The type of cases heard are:
- Annexations Cases are voluntary and result from petitions by landowners who want services such as police and fire protection, water and sewer lines, recreation, solid waste collection, and street maintenance;
- Zoning Cases are requests to change the existing zoning of a particular parcel. In Raleigh, zoning regulates use and form;
- Text Changes are the means in which amendments are made to the Unified Development Ordinance, the City’s zoning regulations; and,
- Comprehensive Plan Amendments are changes to the policy document that provides guidance for growth and development.
