Smoke Alarm Test

RFD, Red Cross Sound the Alarm for Fire Safety

This news article is more than a year old.

Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from home fires in half. That’s the key reason why the Raleigh Fire Department and American Red Cross are teaming up to bring the “Sound the Alarm” program to Raleigh again.

RFD, Red Cross to Visit Raleigh Neighborhood May 14

The fire department, Red Cross and volunteers are scheduled to visit the Kingsborough Estates neighborhood, off Kings Parkway in east Raleigh, on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a “Sound the Alarm” event.

Visit SoundTheAlarm.org/enc or call 919-501-3748 to schedule an appointment for a free smoke alarm installation during the event. (You can also ask for an installation time outside of the event hours and location.) During the 20-minute home visit, members of the fire department and Red Cross will also share information on the causes of home fires, how to prevent them, what to do if a fire starts and how to create an escape plan.

Volunteer to Help!

During May, Red Cross and its community partners, such as fire departments, plan to install 50,000 free smoke alarms in more than 50 at-risk communities across the country. But they need help with that, including on the May 14 event in Raleigh! If you’re interested in experiencing a rewarding day helping families and connecting with other volunteers, visit SoundTheAlarm.org/enc
