Rocky Branch Interceptor Replacement Project

Replacement project to prepare sewer system for wet weather events that may produce higher amounts of storm water.

Design is complete and the project is being approved and permitted. Easement acquisition will take place in Summer 2021. The project will bid to contractors in Fall 2021 and construction will begin late 2021 or early 2022, with completion expected in Late 2022. The project consists of replacement of existing sewer pipe that is undersized for wet weather events. The project area is located between Martin Luther King Blvd and Fayetteville Street and parallels the Rocky Branch greenway south of downtown Raleigh.

History

There have been several Sanitary Sewer Overflows during wet weather events in the Rocky Branch area. Due to these events, and the possible damage to the environment that these events can cause, current sewer infrastructure in the area will be replaced.
