Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility Return Activated Sludge Project

Replacement of infrastructure found on-site at facility to prepare for future system demands.

This project consists of replacement of nine existing return activated sludge screw pumps. There are three screw pumps at three cell locations found on-site. Also, project will cover all associated electrical upgrades along with repairs to concrete structures and railings. The replacement of the screw pumps will improve the efficiency of the wastewater treatment process and provide a more reliable system for community use.

History

The Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility Return Activated Sludge Screw Pump Replacement Project was identified in the Sustainable Infrastructure and Asset Management Program Assistance Program as an asset in poor condition and in need of upgrade to help the city safely process wastewater. Contract was awarded to Heron. The contractor ordered the nine stainless steel screw pumps and expected to take delivery of the first three screw pumps in Fall of 2020. Pre-construction meeting held week of December 1, 2020. Mobilization of work crews occurred week of Dec 7, 2020. First set of screw pumps delivered end of 2020. First set of screw pumps completed.
