Dewatering is the removal of water from solid material or soil for future agricultural use. This produces 'water residuals' which are waste products produced during the safe drinking water process.
This project consists of the construction of a new dewatering facility for the long-term handling on-site of all water filtered and produced by the Dempsey E. Benton Water Treatment Plant (DEBWTP). This treated water will be used for offsite agricultural purposes. This facility was eliminated from the original DEBWTP construction in 2010 due to funding limitations. Limitations are now lifted with construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2020.
