Free Clinics for City of Raleigh Lifeguard Jobs

Raleigh is offering a free clinic weekly for individuals who want a job as a City Lifeguard

In an effort to hire more lifeguards, Raleigh is offering individuals an opportunity to learn about and try the pre-course skills necessary to become a lifeguard at no cost.

The Lifeguard Basic Training membership is for individuals whose goal is to become a City of Raleigh lifeguard. Lifeguard Basic Training is a free weekly clinic held at Pullen Aquatic Center that allows participants to practice the prerequisite skills required to participate in a Raleigh Lifeguarding Course. An instructor will provide coaching and feedback for participants to improve their performance and endurance.

The prerequisite skills include the following:

  • 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle or breaststroke).
  • 2-minutes treading water without using the hands or arms.
  • A timed submerged brick retrieval skill.

Individuals must already be able to swim demonstrating basic stroke technique. This clinic does not provide swimming lessons for weak or non-swimmers. The instructor will evaluate individuals’ swimming abilities and determine if they are eligible to participate in the clinic. Adult swim lessons and stroke improvement courses are available at various locations for those who need training beyond the scope of this clinic.
