Hands on African drumming

Drum it Up!

Join this class to experience first-hand the excitement of live drumming. If you are a total beginner, or have a musical background, this is the class for you. All hand drums will be provided or bring your own. We will use the African hand drum (called a Djembe) to work on independence, coordination, basic rhythm patterns, ensemble performance, and ideas for solo improvisation.

Each class will focus on four elements of drumming. Hand exercises, beat patterns with drum tones, ensemble participation and a goal to complete an extended group composition. As a bonus, for at-home practice, a play-along video will be provided! If you want to drum, let’s get started! No prior musical experience is required.
