Active Adult Program Trip - New Bern, NC

Are you a history buff or enjoy beautiful historical homes? New Bern is the second oldest town in the state. Royal Governor William Tryon made this seaport his colonial capitol and residence, building the Tryon Palace in 1770.
Join the Active Adult Program as we spend the day experiencing the Tryon Palace and downtown New Bern, NC on Thursday, May 19, 2022.  We will leave from Anne Gordon Adult Center 1901 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, NC at 07:00 a.m.    Today you will tour the re-constructed Palace, built from John Hawk's original plans, furnished, and decorated as it may have looked when it opened in 1770.  Costumed interpreters will guide you through its grand interior rooms, describing their purpose and how Tryon and his family may have lived while there. You will find yourself immersed in exhibits, live reenactments and mingle with costumed interpreters through the Military Encampment.  Spring will bring about the beautiful 16 acres colonial revival gardens for you to enjoy.
Lunch will be on your own in Historic Downtown New Bern.  After lunch you can chose to visit the shops downtown or return to Tryon Palace. Don't forget to stop by the Birthplace of Pepsi Store!
