Great Backyard Bird Count Programs

Each year people from around the world come together to watch, learn about, count, and celebrate birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count!

Join Raleigh Parks for a program listed below February 12-15 or join from your own backyard!

To register, go to reclink.raleighnc.gov and use the barcode listed below. Advanced registration is recommended as spaces are limited.

All participants will be asked to undergo a short wellness check which includes a few questions and a touchless temperature check.  Masks will be required. All programs are subject to modification or cancellation. Learn more by reading the Raleigh Parks Know Before You Go

Backyard Birds of Durant Nature Preserve
Saturday, February 13, 2 to 3 p.m.
 
Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count! We'll go on a short hike in the preserve to look for your favorite backyard birds and discuss the variety of foods that different birds eat. Then, you'll make a bird feeder so you can see what birds flock to your feeder! Children must be accompanied by adults. Pre-registration is required. Children and adults must register and pay the program fee.

Great Back Yard Bird Count at Walnut Creek Wetland Park
Saturday February 13, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Join an experienced birder at Walnut Creek Wetland Park for the annual Great American Backyard Brid Count! People of all ages and birding abilities join together during this four-day weekend to count birds and submit their data which is used by scientists and bird experts. We'll get you started by counting the birds at Walnut Creek, and by giving you all the information you need to go home and count the birds in your own backyard! This is a fun, family activity where your count really counts! Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair of ours.

Sunrise Birding Walk at Lake Johnson Park
Saturday, February 13, 7 to 9 a.m.

This program is for beginning birders and well-practiced watchers alike. Join us as we take a morning trek around the lake to find our avian friends. We will focus on both songbirds and waterfowl. Bring your own binoculars if possible, as supplies are limited. Please bring water and wear comfortable footwear. Earn 2 hours criteria II or III EE credit upon request. For ages 10+. Adult(s) must accompany child(ren) under 16, register, and pay the program fee of $4.

Bird Feeder Watch at Lake Johnson Park
Sat. Feb. 13 and Mon. Feb. 15, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Join us for the Great Backyard Bird Count! Spend some time counting birds at our feeders and then make your own suet bird feed to take home. Ages 7+ welcome, but most appropriate for families with children middle school age or older. Adult(s) must accompany child(ren), register, and pay the program fee of $4.
