Raleigh Parks Winter Athletics Field Closures Begin Dec. 7

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is resting selected fields during the winter. The goal is to prevent winter damage so that citizens can enjoy healthy, resilient fields that are safe for play in the spring.

“Limiting usage of City of Raleigh athletic fields has become an essential variable to be considered in the long-term maintenance and playability of athletic spaces," said Athletics Program Director, Jason Simpson. "Use and overuse of fields during the winter season when fields stay perpetually wet or worse yet have a daily freeze/thaw status are having a lasting impact on playability. Even more critical is the result of fields that are unable to be used as we enter into the peak season of programming and use in the spring."
