parking meter on Hillsborough Street

Hillsborough Street Parking Meters Back Online

Payments Starting July 20

Payment will be required for on-street metered parking along Hillsborough Street beginning July 20. Metered spaces had been free during the early stages of COVID-19. As the City begins a return to business and students return to NC State, parking enforcement resumes to keep spaces open for customers.

To help ensure customer safety Raleigh Parking ambassadors are taking these steps:

  • Parking meter touch pads will be regularly sanitized
  • Staff will wear personal protective equipment to protect themselves and keep others safe
  • Staff will remind customers they can pay for parking without touching the meter by downloading the Passport app, available for free to any mobile phone user

Assisting the Business Community
Turning the parking meters back on supports the business community by ensuring their customers have access to parking spaces as students return to NC State for the Fall semester starting August 10.

“The safety of our customers and staff is our primary focus,” said Parking Manager Matthew Currier. “We are taking all measures available to us to protect ourselves and each other as we begin a measured return to business.”

Information about rates and enforcement will be posted on meters. Raleigh Parking ambassadors will also be on foot, available to answer questions.

Soft enforcement will be in place for two weeks after July 20 to allow residents, students and businesses to adjust to the changes in meter enforcement.  Raleigh Parking staff will continue to monitor these changes and make any needed adjustments.

We appreciate your patience during this time.
