Stormwater Fee Increase Going into Effect Sept. 1

Raleigh City Council approved a stormwater rate change following a public hearing on July 7. The new stormwater fee for customers will go into effect Sept. 1. A majority of homeowners will pay $5.50 a month instead of $5.00. The fee for commercial properties will increase by 10 percent.

The rate is based on the amount of impervious surface – like rooftops and driveways – on a property that does not allow rain to soak into the ground. The more impervious surface, the more we have to manage how stormwater flows through the city.
