The City of Raleigh plans to resume bulky, special load, electronic waste (e-waste), and illegal dumping collections beginning June 15.
To mitigate safety concerns and adhere to social distancing guidelines, our crews will use a knuckle boom truck instead of the traditional rear-loader truck for special service collections. This will allow contactless collection and limit employee exposure. In addition, we will continue to keep our employees safe by providing personal protective equipment.
Request These Services
We offer these services per customer request. You can schedule your collection by contacting Customer Care at 919-996-3245. Once your collection date has been scheduled (for more about that, see below), place your items neatly at the curb by 6 a.m. the morning of your scheduled collection day.
Types of Special Collections We Offer
Bulky load collection is available for residential customers who need to dispose of bulky items that are too large to fit in a garbage cart, such as household furnishings, mattresses, and box springs. Bulky load items will be picked up on your next garbage collection day (you still need to call the Customer Care Center to let us know that you need bulky load collection). City of Raleigh residents are allowed one free bulky collection of up to four (4) cubic yards (equivalent to filling the bed of a standard-sized pickup truck) every 90 days. Please place any small items in a box. This service is not available to apartment complexes or communities that use a dumpster for garbage collection.
Special load collection is available for residential customers who need to dispose of large appliances that cannot be disposed of in the landfill, and collections that exceed the limitations of a bulky load collection. Special load collections can be scheduled for any day Tuesday through Friday. Special load collection costs $50 for each load (4 cubic yards) and the cost will be added to your next water utility bill.
Illegal dumping collection is related to household furnishings or other miscellaneous items that have been abandoned or left in unauthorized areas. This does not include materials left behind by tenants after vacating a property; those items must be collected via private hauler and arranged by the property manager/owner. You can report illegal dumping to the City via the Customer Care Center. There is no fee for this type of collection.
E-waste collection is available for residential customers who need to dispose of household items with an electric plug such as TVs, computers, and telephones (this does not include large appliances). There is no fee for this type of collection.
