The Raleigh City Council, on March 3, approved a $6,368,538 bid from Barnhill Contracting Company for the annual street resurfacing contract. City of Raleigh maintained streets that have curb and gutter are included in the annual resurfacing program.
The City maintains more than 1,110 miles of streets. The City maintains an inventory of streets that includes the last time a street was resurfaced and the condition of the street.
The work to be done by Barnhill Contracting Company calls for the resurfacing of 44 street sections for a total of more than 12 miles. The road resurfacing work includes milling of the existing pavement, adjusting manholes and water valve boxes, sidewalk access ramp installations, placement of new asphalt, and new pavement markings. The work is scheduled to begin in early April 2020 and conclude in fall 2020. Potential schedule changes may occur in response to COVID-19.
Funding for this project is provided through the adopted fiscal year 2020 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget for street resurfacing. The Minority and Women owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation is 38 percent.
