The Raleigh Police Department will accept applications for the 2020 Citizens Police Academy until 5 p.m. March, 1. The program is designed to increase transparency and enhance understanding between the community and the police. It will also provide an excellent opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the philosophy, policies and guiding principles of law enforcement, and the ethical conduct requirements that govern police services in our community.
Participants will meet each Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks beginning April 2. Citizens who enroll will learn about a variety of topics including constitutional law and arrest, search and seizure, non-biased policing, investigative case review, youth services, drug recognition, crisis intervention as well as a reality-based training demonstration.
Enrollment is limited to citizens who are at least 21 years of age. Those who live or work in the city of Raleigh are encouraged to apply. There is no fee for the program; however, the Department requests that applicants be committed to participating for its duration.
