Install of New Solar-Powered Meters Downtown Complete

New pay-by-plate system

Raleigh Parking completed installation of approximately 200 new parking meters throughout downtown Raleigh this week. The Raleigh City Council approved the changes as part of the adopted FY20 budget.

The solar-powered meters can accept payment by coin and credit/debit card, or the Passport parking app, providing greater convenience to the public.

“Raleigh Parking is committed to delivering high-quality services through innovative solutions that enhance the customer parking experience,” said Matthew Currier, Parking Manager. “This project is the first phase of modernizing our parking infrastructure to match the vibrant 21st century city that Raleigh is.”

Over the next few months, Raleigh Parking will review customer experience with the new pay-by-plate system and make adjustments, where necessary. Downtown off-street parking costs $1.50 per hour for the Hillsborough and Fayetteville Street Corridors. All other streets are $1.25 per hour.
