Public Hearing March 1 for Council Redistricting

At the February 1, 2022, City Council Meeting the Study Group tasked with reviewing the three proposed redistricting maps presented their report. The Study Group held two input meetings on the draft maps, hearing from five interest groups. Staff held four combined Listening Sessions on both the redistricting scenarios and the prior Study Group recommendations on Council terms, compensation, and voter engagement. Comments from those meetings were provided to the Study Group. The Study Group also received over 200 emails regarding the redistricting alternatives.
The report contains a summary of the public input, a list of pros and cons for each redistricting alternative, and a complete record of the public comment received is included as an appendix.
City Council is holding a public hearing on March 1, 2022 to receive comment on the adoption of “Redistricting Scenario 2” pursuant to the requirements of Session Law 2021-56.  Individuals desiring to speak at the public hearing may do so in-person in the City Council Chambers located at the Raleigh Municipal Building, 2nd Floor, 222 W.
