Come Celebrate Kwanzaa at Chavis!
Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community, and culture. Created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, a professor of Africana Studies, Kwanzaa is a seven-day cultural festival from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1.
Join us at John Chavis Memorial Park on Dec. 28 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. to learn about the seven principles of this holiday. Come and learn about the history and traditions of Kwanzaa. We will have live music, speakers, children 's arts and crafts, and more! Traditional African wear is encouraged but not required.
This event is free and open to the public. It is an all-ages event and needs no pre-registration.
