District E Council Member
David Knight represents District E and was first elected to the Raleigh City Council in 2019. He is vice-chair of the Economic Development and Innovation Committee and is a member of the Growth and Natural Resources Committee. Before his tenure on the City Council, he served on the City’s Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board and as chair of the Raleigh Water Conservation Task Force.
Council Member Knight currently works as a consultant and an attorney. Previously, he served as the Assistant Secretary of Natural Resources for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, director of the North Carolina Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, and director of government relations for the North Carolina Nature Conservancy.
He earned his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University Law School.
Council Member Knight is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys running and biking on Raleigh’s greenways. He is an Eagle Scout and is actively involved with his sons’ Boy Scout Troop. A native of Burlington, Council Member Knight has lived in Raleigh most of his adult life. He and his wife Avery have two sons, Liles and Bowen.
