A New Earth

Artist Statement by Fabrizio Bianchi

Chaos is beautiful. As the worn fibers of the natural world burn around this chaos, a new Earth is being woven…waiting to be rediscovered. In this synoptic reality, my paintings are ethereal interpretations of that inner world, expanding beyond the brushstrokes of an abstract landscape that have evolved into a hyperactive space of calligraphic graffiti. The intuitive rhythm of marks and brushstrokes in my recent work ‘Beyond the Nine Ravens’ is a subtle homage to ancient Greek literature where new life rises from the flames and ashes of a predecessor. Painting this derivative yet reflective morphology establishes a personal, multi-chromatic utopia that playfully blurs the vision of reality beyond the limits of normal human perception.

Some of my recent works with their brushstrokes, colors and amorphous shapes are somewhat cyclical and reminiscent of my undergraduate time at ECU when I took painting classes under Ray Elmore, Paul Hartley and Leland Wallin. They helped push my creative boundaries to greater depths that I have appreciated and passed on over the years in my recent works and art teachings. I owe a lot of appreciation and gratitude to these professors and the School for defining the artist and person I am, ‘beyond the nine ravens’.
