Specialized Recreation Services offers three social clubs for individuals with developmental disabilities. The purpose of these clubs is to encourage the development of appropriate leisure/social skills and to perpetuate friendships.

Anyone is eligible to participate in club activities that are age appropriate. All activities are decided on with input by the participants and provide an opportunity for individuals to participate in age-appropriate social activities. Participants should be able to provide all self-care and function independently on a one-staff/chaperone to four-participant ratio. Participants must have participated in another Specialized Recreation or Special Olympics program prior to traveling on a day or overnight trip (additional restrictions may apply).

All participants must have a current Participant Information Form on file (forms are valid for one year). Additional forms or waivers may be required, depending on the type of activity.

Do not miss out on the most exciting activities of the year! Some previous activities have included:

  • Outings to sporting events (Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina Mudcats, various N.C. State games, etc.);
  • Dinner and a movie;
  • Theater events (Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, plays, etc.);
  • Shopping excursions;
  • Myrtle Beach trip, Baltimore/Washington, D.C. trip; and,
  • Amusement park trips (Emerald Point, Carowinds, Busch Gardens), and many more!
