Stormwater Maintenance and Inspections

Performing regular maintenance on the stormwater system is critical for proper function of the infrastructure and to reduce failures, hazards, and flooding.

What We Do

The Stormwater Maintenance Team provides a wide range of services to maintain the stormwater system in the city right-of-way:

Report A Clog or Drainage Issue

Residents can report clogged storm drains and catch basins by completing a Storm Drainage Problem Form or calling 919-996-6446. Staff will follow up and clean the pipe to prevent additional flooding.

Maintenance Responsibility

Stormwater system and street maintenance responsibility is divided between:

1. Private property owners
2. City of Raleigh
3. NC Department of Transportation

Raleigh Stormwater staff only maintain infrastructure within the city right-of-way. Private property owners can email maintenance staff at StormwaterDrainage@raleighnc.gov or call 919-996-3779 to receive a list of contractors that can perform inspections and maintenance.
